It's All about the Money
The Government cares less about the health of its citizens and more about making money and mass production. Farms are no longer the humane, picturesque green hills, blue skies, and happy farms that are in children books and how many people still view them today, now they are inhumane, disease filled slaughter houses that look nothing like what. Farms use CAFO's (Concentrated Animal Feed Operation), which are small confined areas that are filled with animals to the point that the animals can hardly move around and are all on top of each other. CAFO's are used because they are able to hold more animals but the animal can usually catch many diseases from being so confined and are easily able to spread them among other animals. Not only are these disease not always killed in the food that we eat, the workers working on the farms have a high chance of catching these disease that can lead to death, and the economy is not doing much about these issues.
The Economy is so concerned on making money that it overlooks the well being of the animals, the workers, the consumers, and even the food. The corporations want the newest antibiotics that will make the animals meatier, and the machines that will produce the most. In the movie Food Inc. it was said, "The majority of mass produced chickens are raised in the dark. Their breasts are so large that they're unable to walk. But that’s okay, because they're not allowed to. The antibiotics they are fed to keep them breathing is such conditions end up right there in every bite of your sandwich". This is not fair to the chickens and it is not safe for the people eating the food, but the economy does not stop the mass production they are more concerned on producing more and making more money.
